DSS Frees Wrongfully Detained Yobe Man, Gives ₦2m Support
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Yobe State youth, Mr. Ya’u Mohammed, after investigations confirmed that he had no link to any criminal activity.
Mr. Mohammed, a resident of Gashua in Bade Local Government Area of the state, was also given ₦2 million by the Service to support his reintegration and help him establish a means of livelihood for himself and his family.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, retired Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam, disclosed this during a visit to the DSS Yobe State Command Headquarters in Damaturu, where the young man was formally handed over before reuniting with his family.
General Abdulsalam said his visit was to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the detention and eventual release of the youth.
According to him, further investigations and internal reviews conducted by the DSS established that Mr. Mohammed had no involvement in the alleged offence for which he was initially detained.

The retired General described the development as unprecedented in his years of public service, noting that he had never witnessed a situation where a suspect was not only released after being cleared of wrongdoing, but also provided with financial assistance for reintegration.
He said the gesture demonstrated the commitment of the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, to justice, compassion, and rehabilitation.
General Abdulsalam also called on security agencies to continue to uphold the rule of law and respect fundamental human rights in order to strengthen public confidence and cooperation.
Speaking shortly after regaining his freedom, Mr. Mohammed expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the DSS leadership for the support extended to him.
He pledged to make proper use of the funds provided to establish a sustainable livelihood and support his family.
His father, Alhaji Muhammadu, was visibly emotional during the reunion and thanked the DSS for what he described as a compassionate and commendable intervention.
