PSC Dismisses 4 Senior Police Officers, Sanctions 31 Others Over Misconduct
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed four senior police officers and sanctioned 31 others for various acts of misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing discipline and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
The disciplinary actions were approved during the Commission’s plenary meeting held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu, the four dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct, and acts considered unbecoming of public officers.
The Commission also approved a series of disciplinary measures affecting several other officers. Ten senior officers were demoted, with three Superintendents of Police reduced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police demoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police, and five Assistant Superintendents of Police reduced to the rank of Inspector.

Other sanctions approved by the Commission included severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five officers, warning letters for three officers, and a letter of advice issued to one officer. The Commission also exonerated seven officers after finding no evidence of wrongdoing against them.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, said the Commission would maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward indiscipline within the Nigeria Police Force.
“The current Board of the PSC under my watch will not condone any form of misconduct by police officers,” Argungu said.
He added that the Commission would continue to uphold discipline by ensuring that acts of misconduct attract appropriate sanctions, while also recognising and rewarding officers who demonstrate diligence, integrity, and outstanding performance.
The PSC said the disciplinary measures underscore its commitment to strengthening accountability, promoting professionalism, and enhancing public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
