FRSC Mobilizes for Holiday Travel: 1,102 Vehicles Deployed Across Nigeria
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the deployment of its entire workforce as well as 1,102 operational vehicles in preparation for the upcoming holiday season. This initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities as commuters travel nationwide.
At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide provided insights into the measures being undertaken. The FRSC is set to activate 16 traffic control camps, strategically placed along key routes, and will deploy specialized personnel, including Special Marshals, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the busy period at the end of the year.
“Our logistics include the distribution of 157 administrative vehicles, 754 patrol vehicles, 143 ambulances, and 48 tow trucks. We are also deploying radar guns to monitor speed violations and have prepared for 24-hour surveillance along high-traffic routes,” Ogungbemide disclosed.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has mandated comprehensive operational measures, which include full mobilization of emergency response units and ongoing broadcasts on National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM. The forthcoming “Operation Zero Tolerance,” set to run from December 15, 2024, to January 15, 2025, will feature shifts designed to enhance safety and accessibility on Nigerian roads.
Historically, the end-of-year period has seen a significant increase in traffic volume, leading to challenges such as excessive speeding, vehicle overloading, and poorly maintained automobiles. Ogungbemide noted that the FRSC’s proactive approach seeks to address these issues head-on, thereby mitigating the chaos that characterizes this time of year.
The operation will involve rigorous enforcement against various traffic violations, including dangerous driving, lane indiscipline, and the use of mobile phones while driving. Furthermore, the FRSC plans to establish mobile courts nationwide to deal swiftly with offenders.
In a call to action, the FRSC encourages motorists to download its mobile application for real-time traffic updates and access its social media platforms for information. The public is also reminded of emergency contact options through a dedicated toll-free number, ensuring swift communication with road safety operatives across the country.
This extensive deployment and operational strategy underscore the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring safer roads during a period marked by heavy travel, aiming to protect life and property on Nigeria’s highways.
