Army Officers Engage Operation SAFE CORRIDOR on Post-Conflict Rehabilitation Strategies
The Nigerian Army Armour School (NAAS) has conducted a study tour for participants of Young Officers’ Course 59/26 to the Operation SAFE CORRIDOR facility in Gombe State, reinforcing efforts to deepen understanding of non-kinetic approaches to conflict management and post-conflict stabilization.
The visit, held on 15 June 2026, provided the officers with direct exposure to the Deradicalization, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) framework implemented under Operation SAFE CORRIDOR, a Federal Government initiative designed to rehabilitate and reintegrate repentant former Boko Haram combatants into society.
The tour is part of the school’s broader training philosophy aimed at producing professionally competent officers with balanced expertise in both kinetic and non-kinetic dimensions of modern warfare and security operations.
At the reception of the visiting officers, the Coordinator of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, outlined the objectives and operational scope of the programme. He explained that the officers would be taken through various facilities within the camp and receive detailed briefings from assessment and implementation teams to enhance their understanding of the DRR process and its practical outcomes.

A comprehensive briefing was later delivered by the Camp Commandant, Colonel Mohammed Bello, who detailed the mandate, organizational structure, administrative procedures, and key achievements of the operation since its establishment. He also highlighted the multi-agency coordination framework supporting the programme, including contributions from relevant government institutions and stakeholders involved in the reintegration process.
Colonel Bello further explained the logistical arrangements within the camp and the operational mechanisms guiding screening, rehabilitation training, psychosocial support, and reintegration pathways for participants in the programme.
At the conclusion of the tour, the Commandant of Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General Abubakar Ahmed, commended the management of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR for its sustained commitment to national reconciliation, peacebuilding, and stabilization efforts through structured rehabilitation and reintegration of ex-combatants.
He noted that the exposure would significantly strengthen the professional competence of the young officers and deepen their appreciation of contemporary conflict resolution strategies, particularly in complex insurgency environments where both military and non-military tools are required.
The programme featured an interactive question-and-answer session, during which the officers engaged officials on operational challenges, success indicators, and sustainability mechanisms of the DRR initiative. Participants also inspected key camp facilities and concluded the visit with a group photograph alongside officials and staff of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR.
The study tour underscores ongoing efforts within the Nigerian Army to integrate experiential learning into officer training, particularly in relation to evolving security dynamics and post-conflict recovery frameworks in the country.
