Gombe APC Stakeholders, Supporters Defect to PDP, Back Pantami for 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has received a group of political stakeholders and their supporters from Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared support for the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors, comprising retired military officers, former civil servants, veteran politicians and grassroots figures, were formally received by former Gombe State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo; the PDP governorship candidate, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami; and the state PDP Chairman, Major General Amnon Kalaye Kwaskebe (rtd.).
According to a statement announcing the development, the new members were accompanied by what the PDP described as thousands of supporters from communities across Yamaltu/Deba.
Prominent among the defectors are Col. Magaji Deba (rtd.), Lt. Col. Ado Baba (rtd.), Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Dalcogna, Alhaji Sale Abubakar F.G.L., Alhaji Danladi Buba Fata, Alhaji Waziri Mudi Shinga, Alhaji Abdulrashid Aliyu, Isah Aliyu Galadima, Basiran Yamaltu and Umar Aliyu Hina.

Others include Muhammad Ali Barde, Kabiru Kurjale, Basiru Abdullahi, Hassan Kuri, Adamu Muhammad, Mohi B.O.C., Dahiru Abubakar Dasa, Dan Rimi Adamu Hassan, Shafi’u Kuri, Bashir Salisu, Ahmed Abdullahi, Hamisu Idris, Bashir Abubakar, Munkaila Yakubu, Kabiru Abdullahi, Yaya Babayo and Hamisu Sani Gwani.
The defectors pledged to support Pantami and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections, promising to deploy their political networks and grassroots structures to mobilise voters across wards and communities in Yamaltu/Deba.
They said their decision to join the opposition party was accompanied by a commitment to strengthen its structures and contribute to its electoral activities in the local government area.
Receiving the new members, Dankwambo and Pantami assured them of inclusion and equal opportunities within the PDP, urging them to work with existing party members to strengthen unity at the grassroots.
The PDP described the defections as a boost to its mobilisation efforts in Yamaltu/Deba and evidence of what it said was growing support for the party ahead of the elections.
The party also called on residents who share its political objectives to join its ranks and participate in its campaign for the 2027 polls.
The claims about the number of supporters accompanying the defectors and the political impact of the development were made by the PDP; no response from the Gombe State APC was provided in the statement.
