The Permanent Secretary of Federal Ministry of Information, Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan has given the go ahead for the Websites being published by the Ministry to be receiving and publishing advertisements.
The approval was conveyed after she had considered a memorandum on the subject of accepting and publishing paid advertisements forwarded to her by the Ministry’s Information Technology Department, which has been responsible for content and technical management of the websites of the Ministry, www.fmi.gov.ng and the National Portal, www.nigeria.gov.ng and the Social Media Platforms embedded on the two websites.
Consequent upon the approval for Federal Ministry of Information to be accepting and publishing paid advertisements on the websites it publishes, the Ministry will be breaking newer ground ahead of other Ministries in Nigeria as a foremost Government Ministry to be accepting and publishing paid advertisements.
The Ministry through a statement released on the subject, has begun campaigns urging other MDAs, NGOs, Professional Bodies and private interests which may want to reach out through its platforms, with their products, ideas and announcements, to take advantage of its competitive advert rates, irrepressible reach, impressive visitors’ hits and visitors’ profile.
“Our advert rates are competitive and the advertisements or announcements you place on any of the Ministry’s Platforms are guaranteed to be seen or noticed, read and used by visitors to our website pages! (See the attachment for links to Advert rates and Managers and Contacts to discuss with urgently for your guide).
The Ministry further revealed the monthly visitors to the websites published when it declared: “Our visitors’ hit record in 2014 for FMI website is 28,075,692, giving an average monthly of 1,322,076; and for the National Portal, total visitors in 2014 is 43,404,671 visitors’ hit record, giving an average monthly of 1,972,940! This means that many people read us more than any other national newspapers and we have more visitors to our website than many other online versions of many national newspapers!
The Ministry went on to add, “See our visitors’ profile: Students, Researchers, Envoys, Media men and women, Tourists, Investors, Contractors, Candidates of many examination bodies in Nigeria and abroad, Pensioners, Civil Servants, NGO operators and many others which cut across Nigeria, Africa, Europe, America and the Caribbean! Everyone, especially, Nigerians in the Diaspora who want to be abreast of news and developments in the biggest economy in Africa, the greatest market and regional leader in ECOWAS and the emerging democracy in the world of the blacks!”
The Ministry’s statement also explained the strategy which it has been using to maintain a competitive edge in website publishing: “We have well trained and competent Information Officers in all MDAs and in Federal Information Centres in all States of the Federation. They file reports as the events are breaking and we update on our websites”.
The Ministry added, “The reason for our unrivalled reach is simple: our unique selling point (USP) – more than any other medium, we publish more useable developmental news, reports, commentaries, features and analysis on Nigeria! We have more downloadable images – photographs and videos on our websites! We have speeches of public officials that matter in Nigeria! We document and serve the weekly Federal Executive Council resolutions and Nigeria’s grassroots’ news which we tagged Federal Information Centres (FIC) reports; just as we also mellow the seriousness around, with our Staff news’ section.”
