The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the rehabilitation, reconstruction and expansion works going on at the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway will be completed before the scheduled 48months.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Works Arc. Mike Onolememen who was accompanied by his state counterpart Prince Adedayo Adeyeye on an inspection tour of the corridor.

Onolememen expressed satisfaction at the magnitude of work done and revealed that 30 kilometres of the road had been constructed to binder course level which showed seriousness on the part of the contractors.

The Minister charged the contractors to cash in on the dry season and achieve more mileage before the rainy season sets in.

The Minister however promised that in view of the improved financial mechanism nothing will hinder payment for work done. The contract is a Public Private Partnership project with the Federal Government mobilising 30% of the funds and 70% by the Private Sector.

The Minster thanked Nigerians for their patience as access is hindered while construction is on-going. He added that it is the policy of this administration to bequeath good and pleasurable network of roads connecting all the 6 Geopolitical Zones and thanked the Government for growing Nigerian roads from 4,500 kilometres in 2011 to 25,000 kilometres in 2014 which has connected the major cities in the country.

While speaking, the Minister of State, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye adviced road users not to abuse the Right of Way so as to allow the roads live out their live span. He noted that the Lagos-Ibadan corridor being a Public Private Partnership project has in its contract agreement maintenance programme that will make the road long lasting.

The contract was awarded on the 13th of July 2013 to two firms with Messrs Julius Berger Nigeria Plc (JB) handling Lagos to Shagamu and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) handling Shagamu to Ibadan. RCC has achieved 15.24% while JB has achieved 14.5%.
