Power Ministry Decries Energy Theft, Vandalism Over Power Failure
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Works and Housing (Power Sector) Louis Edozien has described electricity as a subject that affects us all, saying “when power supply fails, our lives get disrupted. When it is consistent, we do not notice it which is as it should be within and outside the country’’.
He made the disclosure in his welcome address at the 4th National Council on Power (NACOP) with the theme “Increasing Access to Electricity through Improved Power Infrastructure”, holding in Government House, GRA, Benin City, Edo State. According to him, NACOP is the highest policy making body and a forum for all stakeholders in the Power Sector to meet and deliberate on issues affecting the Sector and proffer solutions to the problems that have prevented power supply from meeting expectations.

Edozien said it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to increase electricity access and improve services for the well being of Nigerians, thereby, achieving the Federal Government’s target of incremental, stable and uninterrupted electricity supply in the country. He pointed out that access to clean and affordable electricity will improve live as people will be able to work longer and hospitals will be able to provide care to patients. He used the opportunity and called on the security agents to step up efforts in the fight against energy theft and vandalism.
On his part, while fielding questions from participants after his presentation on “Technical Standard and Safety in the Power Industry” the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Peter Ewesor urged operators in the sector to guide against sub-standard materials, saying,”always consider Safety and not Affordability in your choice of purchase of electrical materials”. Ewesor harped on high sense of professionalism in the Power Sector, while pledging his Organization’s commitment to quality control and professionalism..
