Sowore Won’t be Released to Miscreants–DSS
•Says he is more secured in their custody

The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that the Convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, cannot be released to miscreants and protesters.

The Director of Public Relations, DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya, stated this on Tuesday during a press conference at the DSS Headquarters, Abuja.

Afunanya noted that they are saving Sowore from harm, as the Service cannot “simply drop him at the gate and tell him to go”.

“Is it right to bring Sowore at the gate and tell him to go without documentation and hand him over to his sureties”, he asked.

Speaking further, the DSS Spokesperson said that Sowore’s sureties including his lawyer, Femi Falana, have refused to come for documentations before he could be officially released and handed over to them.

He said that rather than responsible sureties to come forward, what DSS was faced with were media and social media profiling and “cheap blackmail by protesters”.

He said: “If Sowore has been granted bail, do we bring him ay the gate and say go. What of if he is knocked down by a vehicle? Those who should come to take Sowore for documentations, document properly and take responsibility that Sowore be released has not come.

“Rather what we have are people protesting. So should we have released Sowore to a mob? Our demands for sureties to come forward is that if someone has stood in for Sowore, why can’t he come forward to be properly documented. We all know what happened concerning Nnamdi Kanu when someone stood in sureties for him.”

Afunanya further insisted that the Service is following due process and global best practices, adding that “it is not out of place that we are insisting that the administrative procedures be followed”.

According to him, DSS is also “protecting Sowore from harm by not just dropping him at the gate.

“We cannot release him to placard carrying people, warmongers and protesters. We have remained calm in the face of provocations.”

On Falana, he said he has neither visited nor called the DSS concerning Sowore’s release.

“The records are straight”, he said, “Falana has not been here since the bail was perfected. Falana has not come to this office since this started. This is surprising because Falana is a friend of the Director General but he has neither called nor seen him”.
