Insecurity:FG inaugurates Police Trust Fund Board

In an epoch making event while observing the social distancing and other protocol to contain the spread of the corona virus pandemic, the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi on Monday, 18th May 2020 on behalf of the President, Muhammadu Buhari, inaugurated the board of the Police Trust Fund.
Explaining the role of the board in line with the establishment Act, Dingyadi  highlighted the duties of the board of trustees through the Ministry of Police Affairs to include the  identification of  the funding needs of the various Police  institutions for the enhancement of the performance of  Nigeria Police Force, enter into contractual arrangement for the purpose of executing approved project on behalf of the Trust Fund, oversee the implementation of project finance through money accrued to the Trust, enter into Public/Private partnership and private finance initiative arrangement and agreement necessary for project execution.
While reiterating the commitment of the President, commander- in- chief of the armed forces, muhammadu Buhari at making security of Nigerians a top priority through the establishment of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dingyadi, explained the purpose of the Trust Fund as stated in section 5 of the Act and commended the president for his commitment to providing up to date equipment, training and welfare services for the Police to maintain peace and security in Nigeria. He urged and charged the board members to imbibe the culture of selflessness, probity, transparency, stressing the need for effectiveness and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mberi FCA expressed delight that as the chairman of the Ministerial Interim Committee set up on October 8, 2019 by the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, who prepared a good ground for the effective take off of the Police Trust Fund has achieved the desired objective. He presented the constituted members of the Police Trust Fund to the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs for formal inauguration.
Responding, the Chairman, Board of Trustees to the Police Trust fund, Rtd. IGP Suleiman Abba, CFR, mni acknowledged the enormity  of the expectation of all Nigerians considering the fact that the security of lives and properties is paramount stating that the establishment of the Police trust fund is indeed the beginning of the Police reforms which will lead to a professional and respected force that protects the rights of all Nigerians . While calling on the Public and Private sector to see that their partnership to the Fund is an investment in their individual, corporate and national security, he thanked the President, the National Assembly and the Ministry of Police Affairs for midwifing the establishment of the Police Trust Fund.
