Environment Minister Unveils EHCON’s Charter, Gazetted Practitioners Register
Minister of Environment, Bar. Mohammed Abdullahi, has unveiled the Service Charter, Rank Badges, and Gazetted Practitioners Register of the Environmental Health Council of Nigeria, EHCON.
This was after declaring the three-day ‘National Environmental Health Business Forum’ open.
At the Forum themed, “Developing Sustainable Environmental Health: Business Model in Support of Nigeria’s Economic Diversification Drive,” Bar. Abdullahi, disclosed that environmental health risks and exposures are responsible for nearly half of the global burden of morbidity.
He however, said that their Federal Ministry of Environment is providing an enabling environment for the Environmental Health sub-sector to flourish and actualize its potential.

He said: “Only recently, President Muhammadu Buhari signed into law, the Environmental Health Officers Act, to empower EHCON in effectively carrying out its regulatory activities”.
In his welcome address, Sanitarian Yakubu Mohammed Baba, the Register/CEO of EHCON, explained that the objective of setting up the Environmental Health Business Forum is to establish a robust and reliable Environmental Health Business Model with special attention to local provisioning of Materials, Tools, Facilities, Equipment and Machinery, among others.
“The Forum will also explore the potentials in Environmental Health Business as vital contributor to the Gross Domestic Product of Nigeria.
“It will also provide an enabling environment for the integration and formalization of Artisanal Environmental Health Trades to full-fledged Environmental Health Services,” he said.
