Olumide Oworu who is contesting a seat at the Lagos House of Assembly on the Platform of the Labour Party was allegedly attacked

Fact-Check: Was Olumide Oworu, LP Candidate for Lagos Assembly Attacked?

Claim: A Facebook post accompanying a blooded picture of Olumide Oworu, the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, for Surulere Lagos State House of Assembly was massively circulated online claiming that he and his team were attacked and seriously injured during the election. The pictures was also widely shared on other social media platforms including WhatsApp

Full-Text: The post that portrayed the attack as a “tribal attack” reads: This is Olumide Oworu, the candidate of the Labour Party for Surulere Lagos State House of Assembly. He is contesting against Desmond Elliot. His team was stabbed & their belongings snatched in Surulere [sic].

“So what is Olumide’s crime? Is he not Yoruba enough???”

Reacting, a Facebook user—Josephine Obukohwo said, “This is very unacceptable! Desmond should be arrested immediately, Sanwaolu you can’t keep quiet over this.”

Verification: PRNigeria ran a reverse image search of the blooded image of Oworu.

The results revealed that the blooded picture that has enjoyed massive circulation on social media ecosystems was first published by Oworu himself via his Instagram page in October 2022, captioned “Alagbado John Wick #OnTheEdge.”

Another result reveals similar blooded pictures of the LP candidate that are still available on the Instagram page of a renowned effect-makeup artist, Carina Ojoko.

PRNigeria discovered that the picture was from a movie titled “On the Edge” and has no connections to the recent attack on the said candidate for LP for Lagos State Assembly.

Conclusion: Based on the facts gathered by PRNigeria, the blooded picture of Olumide Oworu was from his movie titled “On the Edge,” not from any attack on him

Therefore, PRNigeria concludes that the claim is FALSE.
