59th National Council on Health Meeting Commences in Umuahia, Abia State

The National Council on Health which is the highest decision making body in the Nigeria’s Health Sector has commenced the 59thcouncil meeting in Umuahia, Abia state.
The Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Health Research and Statistics of the State Ministries of Health of the 36 states and FCT as well as Development Partners were present at the technical session of the meeting which was holding from Monday 23rd to Tuesday 24th January,2017.
 
 The main council meeting which would involve the Hon. Minister of Health, the Hon. Minister of State for Health and the State Commissioners of Health would hold on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th January, 2017.
 
Speaking to Journalists during the meeting, The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Binta Adamu Bello, who was represented by the Director Hospital Services, Dr. Wapada Balami, said that the National Council on Health meeting deliberates on policies related to healthcare service delivery such as healthcare financing, partnership both in states and Federal levels.
 
He said that the Technical session of the meeting was to bring out technical issues that need National Policy for the Hon Ministers and the State Commissioners for approval.
 
 “The essence of the technical session was to sieve out Technical issues and offered recommendations for approval” He noted.
 
Mrs. Bello expressed Federal Government’s commitment and determination to ensure quality healthcare services are provided to all Nigerians.
 
In his remark, the Hon. Commissioner of Health, Abia State, Dr. John Chidozie Ahukannah said that in the last 18 months, Abia State Government witnessed speed in delivering quality healthcare to its people.
 
He said “As we speak, the state government has completed and about to commissioned/ operationalize 100 bedded General Hospital including residential quarters for Doctors in the Local Government Areas where there were no such facilities”
 
The Commissioner also explained that the present administration of Okezie Victor ikpeazu has rehabilitated the school of midwifery at Abiriba which was moribund for years.
