Ahead of the Feb. 16 presidential election on Saturday, A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna (Sardaunan Gombe) while expressing optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari would emerge victorious in the forthcoming election, says that the people-oriented programmes of President Buhari are his strength.
Gwamna who gave this assurance while fielding questions from newsmen in Gombe on Thursday said President Buhari had disappointed only political critics who wanted him to fail.
He said that the present administration had addressed the yearnings of the people and made the resources of the people available to the people through diverse social interventions and investment programmes that many critics had expected would not work.
He noted that those that hate President Buhari were doing so because he had spent more on the Nigerian masses than any administration since 1999 and by that, bought the trust of the youths, women, children and the forgotten pensioners.
According to him, it will be difficult for any presidential candidate to defeat President Buhari because the women and youths who are the major beneficiaries of the dividends of democracy under the present administration will resists any attempts to stop Buhari’s re-election in favour of empty promises from those who have been in governance but failed the people.
“I am very confident that President Buhari would carry the day come Feb. 16 which is Saturday because his people policies are his strength. The people who have benefitted from the political goodwill of the President will not throw that away for empty promises from those who had enriched their pockets with the resources of the people.
“Those criticising Buhari are doing so not because the president fail the people but because he failed them. Many defected to APC to support Buhari in 2015 for what they can gain but when it became clear that the President Buhari had taken sides with the people of Nigeria, they jumped wagon to the other party while resulting to criticising the president.
“If the 500, 000 N-power beneficiaries, the millions of women under trader-moni scheme, all the forgotten pensioners whom Buhari remembered in a miraculous-like manner and their families and many others who have been enriched through agricultural policies of the government vote for President Buhari, where will candidates of the other parties get their votes to defeat Buhari?
“President Buhari has become a darling to many Nigerians and it is clear from all the large crowds, he has been gathering across the federation that the votes are for him,’’ he said.
The chieftain also said the acceptance of APC across Gombe State showed that Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya is poised for total victory against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He added that Inuwa’s fiscal discipline was necessary at a time that the country is not as buoyant as it used to be during the crude oil boom. He noted that the economy of Gombe was already bad enough and should not be given to looters that would finally halt any hopes of developing the state.
He charged the youths to resists money politics and come out early to cast their votes for President Muhammadu Buhari and Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe State.
