Drug Abuse Campaign: NDLEA Sensitizes Inmates in Ogun Juvenile Prison

In line with the vision of the Nigerian Correctional Service which is ‘‘To be a credible correctional service that secures, reforms, rehabilitates and reintegrates offenders into the society’’, one of the juvenile facilities of the Service – Borstal Training Institute, Abeokuta, hosted some officers and men of Ogun state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who are on a sensitization campaign against abuse of drugs tagged “War Against Drug Abuse (WADA).”

The sensitization and awareness team was led by Commander of Narcotics (CN) IBIBA JANE ODILI. The high points of the sensitization and awareness programme which was held on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023; are – book reading session, talks on the negative consequences of drug abuse, harm and dangers of drug abuse, question and answer, gifts presentation, how to set goals, decision making mechanisms and the importance of making good and virtuous friends.

The Commander of Narcotics actively led the book reading session, when she read the first chapter of Munachi Mbonu’s book titled- CHIDUBEM: the child of destiny, while the students took over the reading of the remaining seven (7) chapters from one another.

She also highlighted the reason behind the book-reading session, adding that students with good reading culture hardly have time to get engaged in drug abuse.

As part of the programme, students were allowed to ask questions. They asked several important questions on abuse of drugs, addiction and how to get free from drug abuse and addiction; which were equally addressed by members of the NDLEA sensitization and awareness team.

The Commander presented the institution with the agency’s magazine, some reading materials and WADA instructional guide.

The representative of the Principal, CSC SO Kotilo, appreciated the Commander and the WADA sensitization team for delivering a wonderful programme and sought for synergy and partnership between the two organisations.
